Many of us use social networking websites quite often. (I'm a lazy user with a profile in Orkut, still.. ) Have you noticed a problem with social networking, when compared to other communication tools like email, IM, blogs?
Yes, there is one problem. Interoperability... Though there is a bit of IOP between SNS (Social Networking Services), its probably not easy and it hasn't come to the masses. Most of the users are very passionate about their SNS and have created a big friend network and won't switch SNS until absolutely necessary. It's hard to reconstruct the network in a second SNS and your scraps, photo comments and everything else are lost. Some people have profiles on more than one SNS and they endup duplicating their efforts to keep friends on these multiple sites happy.
So, IOP of SNS is absolutely essential. There should be a common protocol for sharing scraps, comments, tweets -whatever you call it. Also you, from orkut should be able to add a friend in Facebook, see his/her profile and send messages/comments/scraps. Imagine..
